Technology in the EFL classroom

Now I’m not a trained EFL teacher, I have only modest experience of teaching EFL but there have been during the last five years massive advances in both the amount of resources and technology available to the EFL teacher.

TEFLTech is a company which aims to help EFL schools and organisations smoothly integrate technology and the learn the skills to advantage.

TEFLTech run regular courses and workshops aimed at teachers of various levels of classroom technology.

There are courses or sessions for teachers with no previous knowledge; building confidence and understanding of the capabilities of using technology in the classroom, these workshops usually have around 8 attendees.

The more comprehensive Certificate in Using Technology in EFL course,  builds on skills during ten weeks, starting with basic computer skills such as manipulating text and images, through to more advanced skills such as using video and audio files, and creating presentations.

There is also the option of bespoke courses which are tailored to the needs of you or the organisation. By analysing the staff’s needs, as well as identifying the hardware and software capabilities of  facilities, they can then design a specific course to suit.

The site is clean and easy to navigate though I found it a little difficult to read the text at times.  There is a lot of information on the site and much in the way of materials to back up what the company does.

You may have to read through a couple of times to understand fully what they can offer.

For instance they also provide or can supply a range of hardware which is tried and tested by the company, a brilliant way to purchase items if you are just moving into this field, as they will know what to buy and what not to sell you.

They also supply software for the EFL classroom and can advise you on how to set up your systems and how to stop students downloading items which block up valuable memory space.

TEFLTech can also advise you on the everyday management side of the business from booking sheets and beyond.

For more information you can contact them through their website TEFLTech
